In the name of all things old-fashioned, community, food from scratch, and green living, Welcome to Green Tree Homestead! My name is Jodie and I created this site to share some of my methods for simple, natural, and intentional living. There is something special and sacred about the home. I’ve always been drawn toward its warmth, comfort, and creativity. I am obsessed with cooking from scratch and passionate about sharing recipes as well as tips for a more sustainable, intentional life. Follow along as I show you ways to consume less, cook from scratch, and DIY all the things! I am a proud Urban Homesteader hoping one day my husband and I can buy our dream farm.
How I began Green Tree Homestead…
Homesteading became a pronounced passion of mine when I moved into my first apartment on Green Tree Lane. There, I learned how to create natural remedies, cook from scratch, garden on my tiny balcony, and reduce waste. All on a super small budget!
I constantly found myself curious about food and its journey from start to finish. If I can’t trace it back to nature, I hesitate to consume it. Thus began my obsession with ingredients. It was these curiosities that led me to become an advocate for reduced waste, DIY everything, food from scratch, holistic health, and all that comes with it. As a working artist, I didn’t have a lot of disposable income to play with, so I was looking for ways to cut costs without cutting quality. This lifestyle was the way forward.
My Background
I spent the last 20+ years in the performing arts industry honing my passion to create, collaborate, share, and teach. This is where my entrepreneurial side showed itself. I founded and directed a professional dance company and a pre-professional dance company. Though I’ve scaled way back, I still dabble in the dance world and couldn’t see a life without it!
Throughout my life and career, God taught me how to be courageous and go after the things that spoke to my heart. I eventually found myself coaching people to do the same. Currently, I am one month away from my Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential through the International Coaching Federation (ICF). Most days, when I am not in the garden or kitchen, I am helping people partner with God to design a life of authenticity and intentionality.
