Simple syrup is one of the easiest things to make at home. Don’t waste your money on store-bought alternatives. This will take you five minutes and requires only two ingredients you likely have at home.

You can use this in cocktails, which is likely what you are used to. But you can also sub in when you need a liquid sweetener like honey, maple syrup, agave, etc.
Equipment
Ingredients
1 cup of distilled water
1 cup of cane sugar
Instructions
- Pour water and sugar into a saucepan
- Turn on medium-high heat
- Stir until the sugar is dissolved
- Turn off the heat and pour into a swing top bottle
- Let cool at room temperature and then place in the refrigerator
That’s it!
If you want, you can add flavor as well! Mint, citrus, cranberry, the sky is the limit. Just add flavoring to the syrup once you take it off the heat. Allow it to diffuse. Strain before pouring.
FAQ’s
Does simple syrup need to be refrigerated?
Yes. You should refrigerate to avoid bacterial growth and mold.
Does simple syrup expire?
